Of all my books, this is my favorite. Making a gingerbread house was my inspiration for the book — after all, it is the perfect size for a mouse to move into when it’s cold and snowy outside. Adding my own gingerbread cookie recipe was the icing on the…cookie I guess…oh, well, I got to bake and eat cookies while working on the pictures.

I recently completed a really fun design and illustration project for an exhibit at the recently opened Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans. Build-a-Bug is an interactive computer exhibit that gives visitors the opportunity to design their own insects for three separate ecological environments including a swamp, desert or meadow. Visitors build a bug by selecting from individual bug parts. The visitors’ bugs are then set loose in the chosen environment to see how well the design is adapted to that particular environment.
