Drawing Dogs

29 April 2010 No Comment

Dogs are so much fun to draw!  Dog breeds have so many more variations in size, shape, and face structure than most animals.  Because I love every variation,  I tried to include as many different dogs as I could,  from Dachsunds to Bassets, Great Danes to Pekinese.   This drawing book  is a fun way to learn how to sketch  dogs -  step by step kids (and grownups!)  will  learn to create simple shapes which will become the framework for finished drawings.  The directions are simple and  the diagrams are straightforward, and Drawing Dogs also comes with a dandy sketch pad in back.

I bought several wondrous books filled with photographs of dogs to look at to inspire me while designing the sketches  -  playful dogs,  smiling dogs,  raffish dogs,  mutts…..spotted,  long-haired,  pug-nosed and puppies,  mom dogs and dad dogs.  Be sure to draw your own pet  -  find a picture you like of Sparky or Puff,  and try sketching them.  Copying your photograph larger on a copier will make the image easier to see  -  or try placing tracing paper over the enlarged copy,  then trace the image to simplify the shapes you see, like the head, legs, tail, body.  Have fun!
